Anti War Articles

In the movie, “Lord of War” Nicolas Cage’s character says “There are over 550 million firearms in worldwide circulation. That's one firearm for every twelve people on the planet. The only question is: How do we arm the other 11”. The movie is about profiting from the war works and how to get away with it. Throughout the movie he pays people to lobby for war and does all sorts of dirty dealings. He avoids this ATF agent and when he finally gets caught he gets off because he is profiting off the war which helps the United States.

Lord of War (2005) - IMDb

Nicolas Cage’s character says this: “The reason I'll be released is the same reason you think I'll be convicted. I do rub shoulders with some of the most vile, sadistic men calling themselves leaders today. But some of these men are the enemies of your enemies. And while the biggest arms dealer in the world is your boss - the President of the United States, who ships more merchandise in a day than I do in a year - sometimes it's embarrassing to have his fingerprints on the guns. Sometimes he needs a freelancer like me to supply forces he can't be seen supplying. So, you call me evil, but unfortunately for you, I'm a necessary evil.” This quote shows even more that war profiteering is huge. A more recent movie is “War Dogs” and I highly recommend it as a great movie based on a true story. You are probably asking what does this all have to do with these news sites. The answer is money. In “War Dogs” they directly do contracting for the government selling ammo, guns, etc.

Lord of War“ sells to those the US can't sell to because of how it would make them look. Even in the movie "Vice" it shows how Dick Cheney made money off the Iraq War. All this money helps the rich and powerful who run companies who make money selling to the government so they can give more money to larger companies like FOX and CNN who tend to push agendas such as CNN pushing war with Russia and Fox pushing war with China. The stories on ANTIWAR.Com and stories on American Conservative will get hidden with money given to google and other search engines. It’s like how Tulsi Gabbard was hidden during the elections. They both have stories that are very important and interesting but very few will see them because they don't receive money like the large media companies give out. There’s a great Jake Tran Video about the blood money to be made in war and uses this quote that I love about making money in war.  "War is a racket. It always has been. It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives. A racket is best described, I believe, as something that is not what it seems to the majority of the people. Only a small 'inside' group knows what it is about. It is conducted for the benefit of the very few, at the expense of the very many. Out of war a few people make huge fortunes.” -Smedley Darlington Butler who is one of the most decorated Marine. The money to be made is tremendous so making paper tigers to fight is key for so many people's fortunes. Like stated in class, we have spent a few trillion in Iraq and have occupied it in multiple presidencies and they all said they wanted to pull out but when it was time they did not as someone was greasing their pockets. It was like you said in class, “New boss same rules” Dean Smith

Vice: Power is Cheney's Vice - Current Magazine

I think Wikileaks was the best anti-war, yet I don't think it is classified as that but it is pure news where you can find tons of anti war information. What I found funny was when Julian Assange was in the Venusalian Embassy he still leaked things about Venezuela despite being housed by them because he is so adimate about being truthful and fair. It's what got him escorted out and to his current imprisonment. You can find lists of anti war sites online, but what I found interesting is many are banned in other countries and I worry we may get to that place here in the United States within censorship.
